Cultural appropriation - web pic.jpg

CULTURAL APPROPRIATION

Cultural appropriation can be defined as taking on aspects of another culture as one’s own. Specifically, it is used in a context where a dominant culture adapts something from a minority culture and using these aspects in a negative way. More recently it has sparked heated conversations about the extent and consequences of appropriating another culture, especially one that is marginalized. It can take many different forms including Cultural exchange, Cultural dominance, Cultural exploitation, and Transculturation. In our very first documentary film, we will address actions of cultural appropriation vs. cultural appreciation. Click here to view our documentary
